Embark on a journey through the once famous and colourful Woolshed Valley goldfields.
The area boasts an exciting history of legends and myths. Joe Byrne and Aaron Sherritt, of the notorious Kelly Gang, grew up in the Woolshed Valley and learned their ‘trade’ in the rough and tumble of mining life. The high-up rock facades provided the perfect hide-out for the Kelly Gang before the Glenrowan siege.
In the welcoming village of El Dorado much of the original architecture has gone although the cottages, churches, public buildings, almond orchards, ancient fig trees and other relics remind you of a bygone era of the once bustling mining town.
Woolshed Falls, Barry Falls and scenic Reedy Creek offer picnic spots perfect for relaxing in nature, whilst wineries, cafes and restaurants in Beechworth, Wangaratta and Milawa offer opportunities to enjoy excellent regional food and wine.
